“StationSoccer Lindbergh Construction Completed”

Soccer in the Streets is excited to announce the completion of our newest field project - StationSoccer Lindbergh. The project construction began over the summer and the new fields represent our fourth StationSoccer project. Soccer in the Streets was able to complete this project largely in part to our fantastic founding partners including Atlanta United Foundation, MARTA, the Department of City Planning and, MUSCO lighting, and Fieldturf. Additional local community partners that have also been involved in helping make this project happen include GA Power, Jacobs, Mercedes-Benz of Buckhead and Rubenstein Partners.

During the midst of the pandemic, building this location was the positive light that we needed at the organization,” said Soccer in the Streets, Executive Director, Phil Hill. “We know the players are looking forward to returning to play at the new pitch. And as always, it wouldn't have been possible without the continued support of the partners.”

Whilst this has been a challenging year, Soccer in the Streets were keen to continue making strides in growing the StationSoccer project where possible, partners like City of Atlanta, Deluxe Athletics, Onsite Civil, HKS architects and Beam Imagination were very helpful this year with design, permitting, construction, creative, photographic and visual elements which were critical in getting the project completed and showcased in the pictures shown here. This new site brings two fields to the Lindbergh location and is located directly across from the main entrance to the MARTA station on Morosgo Drive.

Just like other stations this site also has four new Golden Spike benches, thanks to our friends at Atlanta United FC - these benches have become a mainstay at StationSoccer locations.

Sanjay Patel, Soccer in the Streets Director of Strategic Projects also added “It’s great for us to be able to grow the StationSoccer project and add this new location on the northern part of the transit network, during challenging times. Now more than ever, the communities we serve need access to safe spaces to play, promoting health and wellbeing - we are excited about Lindbergh’s participation in the League of Stations!”

Soccer in the Streets has been working in this area for a number of years - we are looking forward to working with existing partners to grow this programming and connect with other community partners and build new relationships at this location. As the Northside Community Program Manager, Jorge Ortiz expresses his excitement for the new pitch.

We are very grateful to have the new StationSoccer location in the Northside area. I know the students in the Lindbergh and North Atlanta area are excited to get the ball rolling on the pitch.”, said Ortiz. “The local community partners, AGAPE, LaAmistad, Garden Hills, and Peachtree Hills now have a home field for students to play in.”

Given the current health environment, we are in with Covid, Soccer in the Streets will have an official launch event with the community and our local partners in 2021 when we are able to hold large public gatherings. We look forward to having the Lindbergh and surrounding communities come together and check out their new fields when we are able to do that. In the meantime, we have opened the new fields to adult games per our Covid protocols more information can be found here , also any other programs and protocols for this location can be found here
