CEMEX announced today it is donating concrete to further its support of Soccer in the Streets, a non-profit organization in Atlanta, Ga., that develops soccer projects and provides leadership programs to benefit children in historically marginalized communities.
Ready Mix USA, a CEMEX USA company, has pledged to donate nearly 100 cubic yards of concrete to Soccer in the Streets for the development of two soccer field projects in the Atlanta area. The concrete will be used for curbs and sidewalks for fields strategically planned near transit stations to provide easy access for children in the neighborhoods.
“At CEMEX, we are always looking for opportunities to contribute to improved quality of life and wellbeing in the communities in which we live and operate,” said Alberto de Armas, CEMEX Senior Vice President – Human Resources. “We are proud to support Soccer in the Streets. Our responsible business strategy closely aligns with the organization’s mission to help youth develop employable skills and promote healthy lifestyles. Through programs like Soccer in the Streets, we can build more sustainable communities. We will continue exploring additional ways we can support Soccer in the Streets, including through our global volunteering program, CEMEX Unite.”
CEMEX made the donation announcement as several of the company’s global executives, including members of the CEMEX USA Management Team, attended a session of IGNITE 2019, an initiative to develop leaders who embrace new ways of thinking, learning and working, while helping them achieve greater success as the industry evolves with digital technologies. The program is anchored in CEMEX’s core values to Ensure Safety, Focus on Customers, Pursue Excellence, Work as One CEMEX and Act with Integrity.
As part of the IGNITE leadership program, participants attended a community event hosted by Soccer in the Streets that promoted soccer and awareness of programs that serve youth who otherwise lack adequate access to sports programs or transportation.
“Partnerships like this are invaluable in our goal to cultivate healthy communities. Whilst the CEMEX materials donation towards our projects is fantastic, their support through community events like the IGNITE activation, whereby CEMEX employees are now interacting with the communities we serve, enhances the social impact of the work we all collaborate to do,” said Sanjay Patel, Director of Strategic Projects. “We truly appreciate the role CEMEX is playing as we continue to grow the game and make an impact where it's most needed.”
During the IGNITE session from June 23-27, CEMEX executives also visited other businesses to identify digital behaviors that help customers solve problems, then encouraged to develop programs and put them into practice.
“We are innovating at CEMEX, leading the digital transformation in the building materials industry, and we are constantly working to improve how we interact with our customers,” said CEMEX USA President Ignacio Madridejos. “By learning perspectives from other industries, we can use those ideas and transform them into innovations that can enhance the experiences for our customers.”
The next IGNITE session for CEMEX executives is planned for September in Prague in the Czech Republic.
