The tournament - to be held on May 21st at the Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Training Ground - is expected to break participation records from past tournaments, as it is slated to grow from 12 to 16 participating teams, with an average of 240 players hitting the pitch.

Station Soccer – East Point, located at 2797 Main Street, East Point, GA, is across the street from the East Point MARTA station. The pitch was built in conjunction with the Atlanta United Foundation, MARTA, and the Transformation Alliance. Also included in the partnership are Oz Pizza and Joel Baskins, P.C. The East Point ribbon-cutting kicked-off a day-long community block party along Main Street that runs from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.
- [Corporate Cup 2019 a Success for Soccer in the Streets](https://soccerstreets.org/corporate-cup-2019-a-success-for-soccer-in-the-streets/): On Sunday, Sept. 29rd, over 200 people attended the Corporate Cup 2019, Soccer in the Streets' fundraising tournament that supports metro Atlanta's youth. The event - hosted at Grady Stadium and with the participation of eight corporate teams - was won by back to back champions Team Salesforce as they competed against squads from Deloitte, KPMG, IHG, BakerHostetler, Microsoft, Bader Scott Injury Lawyers, Equifax, and Salesforce. The tournament raised $60,000.

Their dreams are being created in a small town is only what the future holds for women in sports. The only girl's team in the Clarkston community program, this team has seen an increase in participation and success over the past four years.
- [Black Tie Soccer Game 2019 Raises $115,000 for Soccer in the Streets](https://soccerstreets.org/black-tie-soccer-game-2019-raises-115000-for-soccer-in-the-streets/): On Sunday, Sept. 8th, Soccer in the Streets held its annual Black Tie Soccer Game 2019. Soccer in the Streets’ end of year gala hosted family and friends. Instead of the standard banquet dinner, the participants dressed up and play soccer to raise money in support of social impact soccer initiatives benefiting thousands of underserved children in the metro Atlanta area. This year, the Black Tie Event raised $115,000 for Soccer in the Streets.

Starting practice with very few details, coach Joel Apudo led the community team through their normal paces. However, waiting in the wings was Michael Parkhurst, the captain of MLS side Atlanta United, who would join training on the StationSoccer-West End pitches and announce to the youth players that they will be attending the team’s August 11th match. This incredible experience would have never been possible without the generosity of Georgia Power and Atlanta United.

Thus, the program has taken root from the Clarkston refugee program to the College Park community program and to date, 38 young adults have been screened, trained and are now certified US Soccer referees.

That was until six months ago when he called the Director of Programs, Lauren Glancy, to get a better understanding of what Soccer in the Streets was all about. A week later, he was packing a U-haul in Richmond to move to Atlanta and start his new position with Soccer in the Streets as the School Program Manager. Coincidence? Maybe. Some would call it fate.

The funds raised at this annual tournament help Soccer in the Streets provide sustainable free youth soccer programs that cultivate change, education, and empower youth.
- [Soccer in the Streets' Recipient of the BOOST Grant Award from Georgia Department of Education and the Georgia Statewide Afterschool Network](https://soccerstreets.org/soccer-in-the-streets-boost-grant-award/): Soccer in the Streets was recently awarded funding through the Building Opportunities in Out-of-School Time (BOOST) Grants Program. The grant is designed to address the learning gap by expanding access to and improving the quality of afterschool and summer learning opportunities - prioritizing students most impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Funding for the BOOST program comes from the American Rescue Plan, and the grant program is administered by the Georgia Department of Education in partnership with the Georgia Statewide Afterschool Network.

Anxiety and Depression diagnoses have significantly surged over the last decade and will continue in that direction post-pandemic. Thankfully, there has been an increase in the willingness to communicate and share about mental health and wellness.

Financial Center Manager at Bank of America, Chiquita Jenkins, led the youth players through the extensive Better Money Habits® program. This course was especially important as soccer came to a standstill during the pandemic, these players were able to turn their focus on to other at-home activities.

StationSoccer’s third pitch officially opened across from the East Point MARTA station on October 5. Counting the thriving Five Points and West End pitches, the organization is now three locations deep into its goal of becoming the world’s first league of soccer teams representing transit stations. The initiative is run by nonprofit organization Soccer in the Streets, which manages a free urban soccer program for Atlanta youth and provides work-readiness and leadership training. And it’s funded by adult-league play, along with support from Atlanta United and other partnerships.
